Total Body Contouring After Massive Weight Loss: The New You
Total body contouring after massive weight loss addresses the subsequent concerns by removing excess sagging fat and skin while improving the underlying support tissue. Whether you have undergone weight reduction surgery or succeeded in substantial weight loss, body contouring adds a more natural appearance with smoother contours.
Reward yourself after massive weight loss! By toning your entire body, you can enjoy a firmer, more youthful appearance by eliminating areas of unwanted fat and excess skin!
Are you a candidate for total body contouring?
Following massive weight loss, skin and tissues often lack the elasticity to conform to the reduced body size. Body contouring procedures may include any of the following to address these areas of concern:
- Facelift: Sagging of the mid-face, jowls and neck
- Breast Lift: Sagging, stretched and flattened breasts
- Arm Lift: Sagging of the upper arms that often creates a “bat wing” appearance
- Tummy Tuck: Apron of excess skin hanging over the abdomen
- Buttocks Lift: Sagging buttocks creating a flattened appearance
- Thigh Lift: Sagging of the inner and outer thighs including cellulite
If you are in good health, poise a positive attitude and realistic expectations, then you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure.
If there are additional fat deposits in localized areas then Dr. Shah may recommend liposuction in addition to total body contouring for a more pleasing overall body contour and shape. Adjunct procedures may be necessary to achieve your goals.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Shah will take a complete medical history and examine the areas of concern in advance of planning your thigh lift. You will be asked about your desired appearance and any other medical considerations. Dr. Shah will factor in your skin tone, degree of loose skin and amount of fat.
This process will help Dr. Shah to better understand your expectations and determine whether they can be realistically achieved. Then, this information will be used to formulate a surgical plan that will obtain the best outcome based on the discussed goals of the procedure. Dr. Shah will select the surgical technique that will offer the lowest risk with maximum results. Both Dr. Shah and his staff will thoroughly explain the surgical technique and answer any questions on the procedure.
Overview of the Procedure
Your total body contouring surgery will be performed in one of our fully accredited surgical facilities. Total body contouring procedures are not performed all at the same time. Depending on the areas of concern, you can generally plan for 2 surgeries at 2 different times. You will need to make arrangements to have a family member or friend drive you to and from the surgery center and care for you during the first 24 hours after surgery.
The options for the incision area will be determined by your skin quality, extent of excess skin to be removed, and body shape. Dr. Shah will determine the incision length to perform based on your anatomy, location area of concern and preferences. Depending on the specific condition, liposuction may be used to further contour the area(s) of concern to achieve a balanced look.
Dr. Shah is careful to conceal the incision line(s); however, you will retain scars that are generally hidden by most types of clothing and swim suits. Although incision lines are permanent, in most cases they will fade and significantly improve over time.
Arm Lift Recovery
After your total body contour surgery, you will experience temporary bruising, swelling, and some discomfort and tightness for the first two weeks. The incisions are closed with stitches and specific areas are bandaged for comfort and support during recovery. For applicable procedures, a special support garment will need to be worn to aid recovery. You will be up and moving around the day of your surgery. You are not on bed rest. Most people return to work in 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure.
Dr. Shah and his staff will closely monitor your progress by providing specific postoperative care instructions and schedule a follow up visit to the office to ensure a smooth healing and recovery.
