Target Areas Affected By Pregnancy with a Mommy Makeover
A mommy makeover, also known as post-pregnancy surgery, is a combination of the Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift and Tummy Tuck procedures to restore your before-pregnancy appearance. Mommy makeovers are designed to address and reverse the physical changes associated with pregnancy, raising children and aging. More and more women are acknowledging they need a little help beyond a healthy diet and exercise to return to the way their bodies looked before their pregnancies. Treat yourself to the benefits of a mommy makeover by eliminating excess fat pockets, loose skin, and sagging breasts.
When Should You Consider a Mommy Makeover?
- If your pregnancy negatively affected the size and shape of your breasts
- If your breasts sag or droop in appearance due to skin laxity and excess skin
- If you have uneven breasts, decreased breast volume, drooping nipples or stretched areolas
- If your breasts increased in size after childbirth causing disproportion with the rest of your body and back pain
- If you have a sagging tummy and stretch marks causing a thick and undefined waistline
- If you had a C-section and now have areas of fat hanging over the surgical scar
- If pockets of fat on your waist and abdomen do not improve with diet and exercise
Benefits of a Mommy Makeover
Enjoy your restored natural appearance with the benefits revealed in these procedures:
- Breast Augmentation – Add volume and fullness to your depleted breasts following pregnancy or breast feeding with breast implants for enhanced balance to your figure!
- Breast Lift – Raise and firm your breasts with a breast lift for a more youthful, perky appearance and improved overall body image!
- Tummy Tuck – Restore your muscle tone and waistline after pregnancy with a tummy tuck for a flatter and firmer stomach contour!
If you are in good health, poise a positive attitude and realistic expectations for restoring your breasts and body image, then you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure.
If there are additional fat deposits in the hips and “love handles” then Dr. Shah may recommend liposuction in addition to the Mommy Makeover for a more pleasing overall body contour. Adjunct procedures may be necessary to achieve your goals.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Shah will take a complete medical history and examine the areas of concern in advance of planning your mommy makeover. You will be asked about your desired breast size and appearance, abdominal size, and any other medical considerations. Dr. Shah will factor in your skin tone, degree of loose skin and excess fat.
This process will help Dr. Shah to better understand your expectations and determine whether they can be realistically achieved. Then, this information will be used to formulate a surgical plan that will obtain the best outcome based on the discussed goals of the procedure. Dr. Shah will select the surgical technique that will offer the lowest risk with maximum results. Both Dr. Shah and his staff will thoroughly explain the surgical technique and answer any questions on the procedure.
Overview of the Procedure
Your mommy makeover surgery will be performed in one of our fully accredited surgical facilities. The procedures may take up to 3 hours to complete. You will need to make arrangements to have a family member or friend drive you to and from the surgery center and care for you during the first 24 hours after surgery.
Dr. Shah is careful to conceal the incision line(s); however, you will retain scars that are generally hidden by most swim suits. Although incision lines are permanent, in most cases they will fade and significantly improve over time.
After your mommy makeover surgery, you will experience temporary bruising, swelling, and some discomfort and tightness. In some cases, the swelling will remain for several weeks. Generally, you can expect to be bandaged and wearing compression garments. The incisions are closed with stitches and the breasts and abdomen are bandaged for comfort and support during recovery. Depending on the extent of your tummy tuck, you may have a drain placed in the abdomen that helps remove fluid which may accumulate after surgery. Special support garments for the breasts and abdomen will need to be worn to aid recovery. Your breasts may feel tight and sensitive to the touch and your skin may feel warm or itchy. You may experience difficulty raising your arms. You will be up and moving around the day of your surgery. You are not on bed rest. Most people return to work in 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure. You will have a 20 lb. weight restriction for 4-6 weeks after surgery. You may begin non-impact exercise 2 weeks after surgery (walking on the treadmill, low-speed elliptical). You may begin light upper body weight lifting 4 weeks after surgery. At 6-8 weeks you may begin abdominal workouts including squats and core strengthening. It may take up to 3 months after surgery to begin pull-ups and back bend exercises. It is very important to slowly graduate into yoga activities. If you stretch your abdomen too fast you may disrupt the sutures that are holding your muscles in place.
Dr. Shah and his staff will closely monitor your progress by providing specific postoperative care instructions and schedule a follow up visit to the office to ensure a smooth healing and recovery.
