Achieve a More Toned Appearance with Thigh Lift Surgery
A thigh lift, also known as thighplasty, reshapes and improves the contours of the thighs by reducing the excess skin and fat from the inner and outer thighs resulting in a firmer, more youthful appearance.
Are you a candidate for a thigh lift?
- You have localized pockets of fat in your thighs
- You have loose, excess, and sagging skin in your thighs
- You desire firmer thighs for a more shapely body appearance
- Aging has led to sagging, cellulite and loose skin on your thighs
- Clothes and swimwear do not fit properly and proportionally because of heavy thighs
- You have succeeded in a massive weight loss program or bariatric surgery and desire shapely thighs to reflect your more proportional, toned figure
If you are in good health, poise a positive attitude and realistic expectations, then you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure.
If there are additional fat deposits in hip and buttocks area then Dr. Shah may recommend liposuction or a buttocks lift in addition to a thigh lift for a more pleasing overall body contour and shape. Adjunct procedures may be necessary to achieve your goals.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Shah will take a complete medical history and examine the areas of concern in advance of planning your thigh lift. You will be asked about your desired thigh size and appearance and any other medical considerations. Dr. Shah will factor in your skin tone, degree of loose skin and amount of fat.
This process will help Dr. Shah to better understand your expectations and determine whether they can be realistically achieved. Then, this information will be used to formulate a surgical plan that will obtain the best outcome based on the discussed goals of the procedure. Dr. Shah will select the surgical technique that will offer the lowest risk with maximum results. Both Dr. Shah and his staff will thoroughly explain the surgical technique and answer any questions on the procedure.
Overview of the Procedure
Your thigh lift surgery will be performed in one of our fully accredited surgical facilities. The procedure takes 1 to 3 hours to complete. You will need to make arrangements to have a family member or friend drive you to and from the surgery center and care for you during the first 24 hours after surgery.
Where are the incisions made?
The options for the incision area will be determined by your skin quality, extent of excess skin to be removed, and body shape. Dr. Shah will determine the incision length to perform based on your anatomy, location area of concern and preferences. There are two different types of thigh lift procedures: medial (inner) thigh lift or lateral (outer) thigh lift. Medial thigh lift incisions are made in the groin area and excess fat and skin are removed along the inner thigh. Depending on the specific condition, liposuction may be used to further contour the thighs to achieve a balanced look. The area from the groin to the knee is recontoured. Lateral thigh lift incisions generally extend from the groin, around the hip, and possibly a buttock fold incision will be included depending on the condition. Dr. Shah will strategically place the incisions where the scars can be hidden by most clothing and swimsuits. Lateral thigh lift incisions will be more extensive than for a medial thigh lift.
Dr. Shah is careful to conceal the incision line(s); however, you will retain scars though some are generally hidden in the natural fold of the groin and hip area and by most types of clothing and swimsuits. Although incision lines are permanent, in most cases they will fade and significantly improve over time.
After your thigh lift surgery, you will experience temporary bruising, swelling, and some discomfort and tightness for the first two weeks. The incisions are closed with stitches and the thighs are bandaged for comfort and support during recovery. A special support garment will need to be worn to aid recovery. You will be up and moving around the day of your surgery. You are not on bed rest. Most people return to work in 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure.
Dr. Shah and his staff will closely monitor your progress by providing specific postoperative care instructions and schedule a follow up visit to the office to ensure a smooth healing and recovery.
