Restore a Youthful Figure with Breast Lift Surgery
Are you unhappy with the sagging of your breasts? Do your nipples point downward? Did pregnancy and breast-feeding take a toll on the shape of your breasts causing them to droop? A breast lift is designed to give breasts a more youthful, perky appearance resulting in an improved overall body image. Breast lift surgery raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour.
Are you a candidate for a breast lift?
Women consider a breast lift for the following common reasons that may relate to you:
- Breasts are sagging, stretched or droopy
- Breasts have lost volume or firmness over time
- Nipples and areolas (the darker area surrounding the nipples) point downward
- Breasts are not equal in size
- Tissue surrounding the nipple or areola has become stretched
- You are finish with childbearing and breast-feeding and desire youthful, firm breasts again
- Breasts appear different from each other, one breast may appear firm and well positioned while the other sags
- Gravity, weight gain or loss, normal aging and heredity have transformed the shape and projection of breasts
If you are in good health, poise a positive attitude and realistic expectations, then you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure.
How will a breast lift improve your appearance?
A breast lift will:
- Elevate loose, sagging breasts
- Reposition droopy nipples
- Create a rounder, more natural look
- Remove excess skin
- Improve breast shape, projection and symmetry
- Restore a youthful appearance
During your initial consultation, Dr. Shah will take a complete medical history and examine the areas of concern in advance of planning your breast lift. You will be asked about your desired breast size and breast appearance and any other medical considerations. Dr. Shah will factor in the size and shape of your breasts, the quality of your skin, and the placement of your nipples and areolas (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipples).
This process will help Dr. Shah to better understand your expectations and determine whether they can be realistically achieved. Then, this information will be used to formulate a surgical plan that will obtain the best outcome based on the discussed goals of the procedure. Dr. Shah will select the surgical technique that will offer the lowest risk with maximum results. Both Dr. Shah and his staff will thoroughly explain the surgical technique and answer any questions on the procedure.
Overview of the Procedure
Your breast lift surgery will be performed in one of our fully accredited surgical facilities. The procedure takes 1 to 3 hours to complete. You will need to make arrangements to have a family member or friend drive you to and from the surgery center and care for you during the first 24 hours after surgery.
In breast lifts, different techniques for removing breast skin and reshaping the breast determine the location of the incisions and resulting scars. Dr. Shah will select a technique based on your breast size and shape, areola size and position, degree of breast sagging, skin quality and elasticity and how much extra skin you have.
A common method of lifting the breasts involves three incisions:
- Around the areolas
- Extending downward from the areolas to the breast creases
- Horizontally along the breast creases
Dr. Shah is careful to conceal some of the incision lines in natural breast contours, but others will be visible on the breast surface. Although incision lines are permanent, in most cases they will fade and significantly improve over time.
After your breast lift surgery, you will experience temporary bruising, swelling, and some discomfort. The incisions are closed with stitches and breasts are bandaged for comfort and support during recovery. A special support bra will need to be worn to aid recovery. Your breasts may feel tight and sensitive to the touch and your skin may feel warm or itchy. You may experience difficulty raising your arms. You will be up and moving around the day of your surgery. You are not on bed rest. Most people return to work about a week after the procedure. You will have a 20 lb. weight restriction for 4 weeks. You may return to non-impact aerobics at 2 weeks after surgery (stair master, low-speed elliptical). You may begin running at 4 weeks after surgery, but wear a sports bra over your surgical bra for the next 2 weeks (post-op week 5 and 6). You may begin push-ups, pull ups and swimming 6 weeks after your procedure. With all activities, it is important to listen to your body. Don’t push too hard, take it “low and slow.”
Dr. Shah and his staff will closely monitor your progress by providing specific postoperative care instructions and schedule a follow up visit to the office to ensure a smooth healing and recovery.
