Smooth Wrinkles & Tighten Sagging Skin with a Brow Lift
The effects of aging are primarily portrayed in the face with the brow and forehead areas often revealing the first signs. People even in their 30’s can be mistaken as being older than their years due to unwanted heavy lines and wrinkles. For a youthful and harmonious appearance, a brow lift is often performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for a complete overall facial rejuvenation.
Are you a good candidate for brow lift surgery?
- Excess wrinkled skin
- Deep horizontal creases across the forehead
- Low position of the eyebrows creating droopy eyebrows
- Sagging forehead skin
- Increasing heaviness of the eyebrows
- Poor vision
- Frown lines, or furrows, between the eyebrows or across the top of the nose
- Mistaken as tired, angry or sad when this is not how you actually feel
A forehead and brow lift surgical procedure can remove years from your face revealing a more alert and refreshed appearance!
During your initial consultation, Dr. Shah will take a complete medical history and examine the areas of concern in advance of planning your brow lift. Dr. Shah will evaluate your forehead and eyes for areas needing improvement based on skin thickness, texture and elasticity along with the severity of the wrinkles and creases. Any skin damage detected from environmental influences will be assessed and perhaps treated before surgery. Then, this information will be used to formulate a surgical plan that will obtain the best outcome based on the discussed goals of the procedure. Dr. Shah will select the surgical technique that will offer the lowest risk with maximum results. Both Dr. Shah and his staff will thoroughly explain the surgical technique and answer any questions on the procedure.
Overview of the Procedure
Your brow lift surgery will be performed in our fully accredited surgical facilities. Multiple surgical approaches have been developed with the main difference between the techniques being the placement of the incision. More than one technique may be used to elevate the forehead skin.
A coronal incision is made just behind the natural hairline so that the scar will be well hidden. It follows a head-phone like pattern, starting at about ear level and running across the top of the forehead elevating the forehead and brow.
A pretrichial incision is an alternative to the larger coronal incision with the middle part of the incision at the hairline, resulting in a smaller incision and lower hairline.
A mid-forehead crease incision is intended for patients, primarily men, who have heavy sagging eyebrows and the deep forehead wrinkles.
An Endoscopic, or minimal-incision brow lift, is the newest approach, in which several small incisions are placed just behind the hairline. This is the least invasive surgery with smaller incisions, less risk in numbness and scarring while having the fastest recovery time.
You will experience a certain amount of bruising and swelling for the first 7 to 10 days following a brow lift. As the incision heals, you may feel numbness and itching, but this will soon resolve. Sutures are usually removed within 7 to 10 days. Normally, we remove your bandages in 1 to 3 days. Most patients recover very well within 2 weeks, but patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities or exercise for 3 weeks or more.
Dr. Shah and his staff will closely monitor your progress by providing specific postoperative care instructions and schedule a follow up visit to the office to ensure a smooth healing and recovery. Elevation of the head is extremely helpful in reducing the initial post-operative swelling; using ice packs intermittently may be advised. Concealing makeup is usually permitted after the first week to camouflage any bruising for a short time.
