Restore Youthful Fullness with Facial Fat Grafting
Facial fat grafting, also known as fat injection or fat transfer, involves injecting fat into areas requiring volume-enhancement where fat is diminished due to the natural process of aging. Fat grafting typically involves harvesting fat from one part of the body (such as your abdomen), concentrating, and purifying it, and then carefully re-injecting it with specially designed needles into the areas requiring augmentation (volume). Volume loss is commonly more pronounced around the eyes, cheeks, and jaw line, where fat grafting can play the greatest role in creating a balanced and comprehensive rejuvenation strategy for the face. Fat grafting is not a treatment for all aging, just the part that involves loss of volume.
Fat grafting can be performed on the face and body to add volume, including the following areas:
- Surrounding areas under the eyes
- Tear troughs under the eyes
- Jaw Line
- Facial scarring

Restore the heart-shaped face of your youth!
During your initial consultation, Dr. Shah will take a complete medical history and examine the areas of concern in advance of planning your facial fat grafting. Dr. Shah will evaluate your face and its shape plus the skin and underlying bone to determine how much volume you will need for a naturally looking contour. This process will help Dr. Shah to better understand your expectations and determine whether they can be realistically achieved. Then, this information will be used to formulate a surgical plan that will obtain the best outcome based on the discussed goals of the procedure. Dr. Shah will select the surgical technique that will offer the lowest risk with maximum results. Both Dr. Shah and his staff will thoroughly explain the surgical technique and answer any questions on the procedure.
Overview of the Procedure
Your facial fat grafting will be performed in our fully accredited surgical facilities. Depending on the extent and intricacy of the surgical plan, it will take Dr. Shah from as little as 30 minutes to over a couple of hours to safely perform the procedure. This procedure involves both a donor site (where the fat is taken from) and the treatment site (where it is being put/injected). Usually, the donor site will be the abdomen, buttocks, or outer thighs.
Following the surgery, Dr. Shah will place dressings on the donor site. It is requested that you don’t lie on the injected areas for a prescribed period. Swelling and bruising usually resolve within 2 to 3 weeks. Fat grafting has little downtime from an activity and energy standpoint; however, allow yourself at least 1 week to return back to feeling your usual self.
Dr. Shah and his staff will closely monitor your progress by providing specific postoperative care instructions and schedule a follow up visit to the office to ensure a smooth healing and recovery. Elevation of the head and cold compresses is imperative to minimize post-operative swelling and promote healing.
